Arabic Studies at the University of Ilorin
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has several specific provisions for Arabic Studies candidates. Applicants should pay close attention to the admission route they intend to use.
UTME Subjects
UNILORIN requires Arabic and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects.
O'Level Requirements
Candidates need five credits in an accepted secondary-school qualification. These must include English Language, Arabic and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.
The institution also recognises Senior Arabic and Islamic Secondary School Certificate Examinations alongside recognised SSCE qualifications under its conditions.
Direct Entry
UNILORIN accepts at least two A' Level passes including Arabic and another Arts or Social Science subject. NCE Merit in Arabic or Social Sciences is also recognised.
Relevant diplomas, including the University of Ilorin Diploma and specified diplomas from BUK, ABU and KWASU, may also satisfy the stated conditions where the other requirements are met.
Special Considerations
- Candidates who did not offer Arabic in UTME but satisfy the UTME entry requirements may be considered for 100 Level.
- Candidates who did not offer Arabic at O'Level but satisfy the UTME entry requirements may be considered.
- Senior or Higher Islamic Studies Certificate may serve as an O'Level entry qualification for Arabic Studies and related programmes.
These provisions are important because they create specific routes for candidates whose previous subject combinations differ from the usual pattern.
