Banking, Finance and Insurance vs Finance: Understanding the Difference
Finance is concerned primarily with the management, use and movement of money. Banking, Finance and Insurance takes that financial foundation and combines it with two other areas: banking and insurance.
What Finance focuses on
A Finance student is generally interested in financial decisions, investment, financial planning, analysis and the use of funds by individuals, businesses and institutions. The course is therefore more concentrated around finance itself.
What Banking, Finance and Insurance adds
The combined programme introduces banking and insurance alongside finance. This means the student can study financial services from several connected perspectives instead of focusing on finance alone.
JAMB's Faculty of Administration listing treats Finance and Banking, Finance and Insurance as separate programmes.
Which is better?
There is no universal answer. Choose Finance if you are more interested in financial management and investment. Choose Banking, Finance and Insurance if you prefer a course that deliberately combines banking, finance and insurance.
