Business Administration: Understanding the Course and What It Involves
Contents
What Is Business Administration?
Business Administration is a university course that focuses on how organisations are planned, organised and managed. It gives students a broad understanding of the different activities that keep a business or organisation running.
Instead of concentrating on only one area, the course brings together different parts of business. Students may study management, marketing, human resources, operations, entrepreneurship, business communication and decision-making.
What Does a Business Administrator Do?
A business administrator can be involved in coordinating people, organising activities, managing information, supporting business decisions and helping an organisation achieve its objectives. The exact responsibilities depend on the organisation and the position held.
What Makes the Course Broad?
Business Administration covers several connected areas of business. A student can therefore graduate with knowledge that is useful in different departments rather than being trained for only one specialised function.
Who Should Study Business Administration?
The course can suit students who are interested in business, management, organisations, people and decision-making. It can also be a good option for someone who wants a broad business education before deciding on a particular career direction.
Admission Requirements
The general UTME combination is Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one (1) other relevant subject. Depending on the university, the fourth subject may be selected from relevant options such as Government, Geography, Commerce, Accounting or another accepted Social Science or Management subject.
The SSCE requirement generally involves five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and Economics, together with two other relevant subjects. Individual universities may specify particular subjects or special admission conditions.
Check Your University Before Applying
Business Administration admission requirements are not exactly the same in every university. Candidates should check the specific SSCE, UTME and Direct Entry conditions of the institution they intend to apply to.
