Classical Studies Direct Entry: Qualifications and Admission Requirements
Contents
Direct Entry Requirements for Classical Studies
Direct Entry provides an alternative route into university for candidates who already have an acceptable higher qualification. For Classical Studies, the JAMB brochure specifies the qualifications that can be used for this route.
A' Level Qualification
The first stated route is two A' Level passes, including Literature in English or History.
The inclusion of Literature in English or History is important. Candidates should not simply assume that any two A' Level passes will satisfy the requirement. The subjects presented must include one of the subjects specifically identified by the brochure.
NCE Route
The second route is NCE in relevant subjects. Candidates with an NCE qualification should therefore consider the subject area of their certificate and confirm that it is regarded as relevant to Classical Studies.
What Candidates Should Check
- The type of qualification being presented.
- The subjects included in the qualification.
- The grades or passes obtained.
- The O'Level requirements.
- The institution and course being selected.
O'Level Requirements Still Apply
The Direct Entry qualification does not remove the need to check the O'Level requirements. The Classical Studies entry requires five SSC credit passes at one sitting or six at two sittings, including English Language, Literature in English or History, one Arts or Social Science subject and another subject. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}
Who Can Use This Route?
A candidate with two appropriate A' Level passes or an NCE in relevant subjects may consider Direct Entry, provided the other admission conditions are satisfied.
There Is No Additional Waiver Listed
The Classical Studies entry in the supplied brochure does not state an institution-specific Direct Entry waiver or special consideration. Candidates should therefore work with the qualifications and conditions expressly provided under the course.
Take Care With Related Qualifications
Because Classical Studies has connections with areas such as History and Literature, candidates may hold qualifications in related disciplines. Even so, they should verify that their particular qualification is accepted as relevant rather than making an assumption.
For a complete review of the Direct Entry information, candidates can look through the document below and cross-check their qualification before starting the application.
