Direct Entry requirements for Common and Islamic Law

General Direct Entry Requirement

The general Direct Entry requirement for Common and Islamic Law is:

Two (2) A' Level passes to include Islamic Studies or Arabic.

Candidates using A' Level qualifications for Direct Entry must therefore have two relevant A' Level passes, with Islamic Studies or Arabic included.

Additional Direct Entry Qualifications

Some universities have additional Direct Entry provisions for the programme. Ahmadu Bello University accepts two A' Level/IJMB passes in IRK/Arabic and any other Arts or Social Science subjects. It also accepts the ABU Diploma in Shari'ah and Civil Law with at least Merit Grade. The University of Ilorin accepts at least two A' Level passes in GCE/IJMB or its equivalent in Arts or Social Science subjects, with one of the subjects including Arabic or Islamic Studies. The university also accepts a Diploma in Law with Upper Credit from recognised institutions and a First Degree from a recognised university. The University of Ilorin further lists HND, A.C.I.S., ACA, A.C.C., LL.B (Inter) of the University of London and NCE among qualifications that may be considered in lieu of A' Level subjects, subject to its stated conditions.

Important Point for Direct Entry Candidates

Direct Entry requirements are not identical across all the universities offering the programme. Candidates should check the specific conditions of their preferred institution before applying.
