JAMB UTME Subjects for Communication and Language Arts

Choosing the right UTME subjects is an important part of preparing for Communication and Language Arts. Candidates should check the exact course entry rather than relying on combinations used for other communication or English-related programmes.

The Required Subjects

The JAMB brochure places Communication and Language Arts within the Arts/Humanities admission framework and states the UTME requirement as:

  • Any three Arts or Social Science subjects

Use of English remains a compulsory UTME subject generally, while the three course-related subjects should come from the Arts or Social Science categories stated for the programme.

Why the Subject Categories Matter

The wording is important because the requirement does not simply say “any three subjects.” The three relevant subjects are expected to come from Arts or Social Sciences.

Candidates should therefore consider their subject choices carefully and ensure they fit within the stated categories.

Literature in English Can Be Useful

Literature in English is particularly relevant to Communication and Language Arts because the programme deals substantially with language, expression and communication. However, candidates should follow the official combination rather than assuming that Literature must be accompanied by a fixed pair of subjects.

Do Not Copy From Communication Arts

Communication Arts and Communication and Language Arts have similar names, but they are separate JAMB course entries. Candidates should therefore check the exact programme before selecting their subjects.

Before JAMB Registration

  • Confirm Communication and Language Arts as the intended course.
  • Select three appropriate Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • Include Use of English as required for UTME.
  • Confirm University of Ibadan as the institution offering the exact course.
  • Review the latest admission information before final submission.

One More Thing to Remember

Subject selection should be considered together with the O'Level result. Having the correct UTME subjects does not replace the need to satisfy the required SSCE credits.

Candidates can check the document below for the official course entry and use it to cross-check their JAMB subject selection before registration.
