Direct Entry Into Comparative Religious Studies

Candidates who already have relevant post-secondary qualifications may seek admission into Comparative Religious Studies through Direct Entry. The JAMB brochure provides several routes for this programme at the University of Ilorin.

A' Level Route

The brochure accepts two A' Level passes in CRS or IRS and any other Arts, Sciences or Social Science subjects.

This gives candidates some flexibility in the additional subjects, but CRS or IRS forms an important part of the stated qualification.

ND and NCE

ND or NCE in CRS/IS is also accepted for Direct Entry. Candidates using this route should ensure that their qualification falls within the stated subject area.

Diploma in Religious Studies or Theology

Another provision allows a Diploma in Religious Studies or Theology from the University of Ibadan, the University of London, or any accredited university in Nigeria.

This is particularly useful for candidates who already have a relevant diploma background and want to continue into the degree programme.

Special Consideration for Candidates Without CRS or IS

The brochure also states that candidates who did not offer CRS or IS but meet the UTME requirements may be considered. This is an important special consideration because it provides an alternative possibility for candidates whose secondary-school subject background does not include either religious subject.

Another A' Level Provision

The brochure additionally states that two A' Level passes should include Islamic Studies under one of the Direct Entry considerations. Candidates should therefore examine the exact wording carefully when determining which qualification route applies to them.

O'Level Requirements Still Matter

Direct Entry applicants should also check the O'Level condition for the programme. The brochure requires five SSC credit passes including English Language, CRS or IRS and three other Arts, Social Science or Science subjects. :contentReference[oaicite:7]{index=7}

Direct Entry Checklist

  • Two relevant A' Level passes, where applicable
  • ND/NCE in CRS/IS, where applicable
  • Relevant Diploma in Religious Studies or Theology, where applicable

Why Candidates Should Read the Special Consideration Carefully

Direct Entry requirements are not limited to one qualification. The brochure provides several possibilities, including relevant A' Level passes, ND/NCE, a recognised diploma and a provision for candidates who did not offer CRS or IS but meet the UTME requirements.
