What Is Cooperative and Rural Development?

Cooperative and Rural Development is a course that brings together the study of cooperative organisations and the development of rural communities. It looks at how people can work together through cooperative structures while improving economic and social conditions in rural areas.

The course is relevant to communities where agriculture, small businesses, local trade and other economic activities play important roles. Students develop an understanding of how cooperative societies operate and how organised development efforts can support individuals and communities.

It is not limited to the management of cooperative societies. The course also considers wider rural development issues, including livelihoods, community participation, economic opportunities and the use of local resources.

Who Should Consider the Course?

The course may be suitable for students interested in economics, business, community development and the practical challenges affecting rural areas. It can also appeal to students who would like to work with cooperative organisations, development programmes, community projects or related economic activities.
