French and German/Russian Direct Entry requirements for Art/Humanities candidates

Direct Entry candidates interested in French and German/Russian at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka should pay attention to the qualifications listed for the programme's French-related entry. The JAMB admission information provides several acceptable routes for candidates with relevant post-secondary qualifications.

Direct Entry Qualifications

For University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the admission information provides for the following relevant Direct Entry qualifications:

  • NCE merit in two relevant subjects, alongside the UTME requirements
  • Two passes at GCE A' Level/HSC or its equivalent in relevant subjects
  • DALF certificate in relevant circumstances
  • An acceptable Baccalaureate Certificate in relevant subjects

The brochure specifically identifies these qualifications under the UNN French-related admission conditions. Candidates should ensure that their qualification is relevant to the programme before relying on it for Direct Entry admission.

NCE Route

UNN accepts NCE merit in two relevant subjects, together with the stated UTME requirements. Candidates using this route should therefore not treat the NCE qualification as a replacement for every other admission condition.

A' Level and HSC Route

Candidates may also qualify through two passes at GCE A' Level/HSC or an equivalent qualification in relevant subjects. The relevant-subject condition is important when determining whether a particular qualification fits the programme.

French Language Qualifications

The admission information also mentions a DALF certificate and an acceptable Baccalaureate Certificate in relevant subjects among the qualifications accepted by UNN under its French-related entry conditions.

These provisions are particularly relevant to candidates who already have recognised language or foreign educational qualifications.

Keep the UTME Requirement in View

Direct Entry candidates should not confuse the DE qualification with the UTME subject combination. The UTME combination for the relevant UNN entry is French, Literature in English and any other Arts subject, while the Direct Entry route concerns the qualifications listed above.

Important Special Provision for UNN

The brochure also states that candidates who successfully complete UNN's one-year preparatory programme in French with a minimum score of 40%, together with the UTME requirements, may be considered under the stated provision.

This is an institution-specific condition and should not be generalised to other universities.

Preparing for Direct Entry

Before submitting a Direct Entry application, candidates should compare their qualification with the exact conditions attached to the programme and institution. Related language programmes may have different DE requirements.
