UTME Subject Combination for Economics
The general UTME subject combination for Economics is:
- Use of English
- Economics
- Mathematics
- Any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English or French
Why the Subjects Matter
Economics requires both analytical and social science knowledge. Mathematics supports the quantitative side of the course, while Economics provides the core subject foundation.
There Are University-Specific Variations
Candidates should not assume that every university uses exactly the same UTME combination. The admission information contains special conditions for some institutions.
For example, the information states that ABSU, AUN, IMSU, McPherson University, NBU and PLASU are listed for Economics, while specific institutional conditions are provided for some of them. AUN's information also gives its own UTME-related conditions.
Check Before Choosing Your Subjects
If you already have a particular university in mind, check that university's Economics requirement before finalising your UTME subject choices. A subject combination that works for one institution may not necessarily satisfy another institution's specific condition.
