Linguistics Direct Entry requirements for Art/Humanities candidates

The general Direct Entry requirement for Linguistics is two A' Level passes or NCE to include any Language, preferably an African Language. Several universities then provide their own additional Direct Entry conditions.

General Direct Entry Qualification

The course entry states that candidates may qualify through two A' Level passes or NCE including any Language, preferably an African Language.

Institution-Specific Direct Entry Conditions

AAUA accepts NCE credit/Merit in Yoruba, Mass Communication and Journalism. BSU accepts two NCE/A' Level passes including English Language, French or any African Language and one other Arts subject. CALABAR accepts ND/NCE in Linguistics, Foreign Language or any Nigerian language.

EKSU requires two A' Level passes or NCE credit in Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences to include any language, preferably a Nigerian Language. Ibadan accepts two A' Level passes including any Language, preferably an African Language, and another Arts or Social Science subject; it also accepts NCE with the same language preference and another Arts or Social Science subject at credit or merit level.

Ilorin accepts at least two A' Level passes or NCE including any Language, preferably one Natural Language, and another Arts, Social Science or Science subject. The university also accepts a Diploma in Linguistics from an accredited Nigerian university.

Benin and Jos have No Direct Entry for the course. Lagos requires very good passes in three JUPEB A' Level subjects involving Yoruba/Igbo and two of History, CRS/IRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature in English; it also accepts NCE Merit in two subjects including a Nigerian Language, subject to the UTME requirements.

UNIOSUN requires an A' Level pass in Literature in English and also accepts ND lower credit in Mass Communication and an approved equivalent in a Communication programme. UYO accepts NCE Merit in any Nigerian Language, while Federal University Oye-Ekiti requires two A' Level passes in Arts/Social Science subjects such as Economics, Geography and Commerce.

Direct Entry conditions are not uniform across all Linguistics institutions. Candidates should therefore match their qualification with the exact university before making an application.
