Linguistics/Yoruba JAMB UTME subject combination in Art/Humanities

The UTME requirement for Linguistics/Yoruba needs to be read carefully because the JAMB admission information gives a specific subject structure for the programme at Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).

AAUA UTME Subjects for Linguistics/Yoruba

For Linguistics/Yoruba, AAUA requires:

  • Any Language
  • Two other subjects

The brochure distinguishes this from the more general requirement shown for AAUA in the surrounding Yoruba-related admission information. It specifically notes that for Linguistics/Yoruba, AAUA requires any Language and two other subjects.

Understanding the Combination

The first subject is specifically a Language. The remaining two subjects are described simply as two other subjects, rather than being restricted in the cited course-specific statement to two particular Arts subjects.

Candidates should therefore avoid replacing this combination with a more commonly assumed Linguistics combination. The exact wording attached to the course entry is what should guide registration.

Do Not Confuse UTME With O'Level Requirements

The UTME combination is separate from the O'Level requirement. For Linguistics/Yoruba at AAUA, the brochure gives a separate O'Level structure involving English Language, Mathematics and Yoruba among the required five credits.

A candidate should therefore check both the JAMB subjects and the SSCE result independently.

A Language-Focused Combination

The requirement for any Language is particularly relevant to the nature of the course because Linguistics/Yoruba combines linguistic study with a Nigerian language focus.
