Sociology O'Level SSCE requirements for Art/Humanities admission in Nigeria

O'Level Subjects Required for Sociology

UTME candidates seeking admission to Sociology need to meet the O'Level conditions attached to the course. The JAMB admission brochure lists five SSCE credit passes for Sociology.

The general structure requires credits in:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • History, Government or Economics
  • One Science subject
  • Any Arts or Social Science subject

The course entry presents History, Government and Economics as alternatives for the relevant subject requirement rather than requiring all three.

Why the Subject Details Matter

It is not enough to know that five credits are required. Candidates should check the actual subjects because the Sociology entry specifies the areas those credits must cover.

English Language and Mathematics are specifically included, while the remaining requirements provide for History, Government or Economics, one Science subject and an additional Arts or Social Science subject.

Institution-Specific Differences

Although the general Sociology requirement gives the basic structure, individual institutions may have different conditions. For example, Plateau State University has a specific O'Level provision requiring English Language and three Social Sciences or Arts subjects, together with at least an O'Level pass in Mathematics.

Federal University of Kashere also has its own stated requirement of five SSCE credits including English, Mathematics, Government or History and two other Arts or Social Sciences subjects.

Before Submitting Your Application

Compare the general Sociology requirement with the specific condition of the university you intend to choose. This is particularly important where an institution has an additional or differently worded requirement.
