Theatre Arts Admission Requirements: What Candidates Need to Know in Art/Humanities
Contents
Theatre Arts is one of the major theatre-related programmes listed in the JAMB Art/Humanities brochure. The course is offered by a large number of institutions, but the admission conditions are not completely identical across them.
Basic Admission Structure
The Theatre Arts entry is presented alongside a broad group of institutions, while the brochure subsequently gives institution-specific variations. This means that candidates should not rely on a single requirement for every university.
Examples of Institution-Specific O'Level Requirements
Lagos State University (LASU) requires five O'Level credit passes including English Language, Literature in English and Mathematics, plus two other subjects, one of which must be an Arts subject.
Niger Delta University (NDU) requires five O'Level credit passes in English Language and any four of Literature in English, Fine Arts, History, Geography, Economics and Religious Studies, with not more than two sittings.
University of Port Harcourt (PHC) requires five O'Level credits in English Language and any four subjects from its stated list, which includes Literature in English, History/Government, Religious Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Sciences, Nigerian Languages, Fine Art, Geography and Commerce.
Special Conditions Matter
The brochure also gives different conditions for institutions such as University of Ibadan, University of Uyo, University of Benin, Delta State University, University of Jos, KASU and LASU. These differences should be checked against the exact institution.
Before You Apply
Do not assume that the requirement for one Theatre Arts institution automatically applies to another. The JAMB admission information provides the institution-specific conditions that should guide your application.
