SSCE O'Level requirements for Anthropology candidates

What You Need in Your SSCE Result

For a candidate seeking admission to study Anthropology through UTME, the O'Level result must contain the required number of credits and the relevant subjects.

Five SSCE Credit Passes

Candidates need five SSCE credit passes, including:

  • English Language
  • Government or History
  • Religious Studies
  • Geography
  • Economics

Government and History are alternatives to each other. Religious Studies, Geography and Economics are separate requirements.

How the Requirement Should Be Read

The slash between Government and History means that a candidate can satisfy that part with either Government or History.

The other subjects are not alternatives. A candidate should have credits in Religious Studies, Geography and Economics, alongside English Language.

These subjects give the required five credits:

  1. English Language
  2. Government or History
  3. Religious Studies
  4. Geography
  5. Economics

University of Ibadan Requirement

For Anthropology at the University of Ibadan, UTME candidates also require O'Level credit passes in English Language and any other three Arts subjects.

Candidates applying to the university should therefore consider this condition alongside the course's O'Level requirements.

Why You Should Check the Actual Subjects

A candidate may have five credit passes and still need to examine whether the right subjects are included. The number of credits and the subjects carrying those credits both matter when checking admission eligibility.

O'Level and UTME Serve Different Purposes

Your SSCE result and your JAMB subject combination should be checked separately.

For UTME, Anthropology requires English Language and any three from History, CRS/IRS, Geography, Economics, Literature in English and French.

For O'Level, the required five credits include English Language, Government or History, Religious Studies, Geography and Economics.

A Simple Checklist

  • English Language — credit.
  • Government or History — credit.
  • Religious Studies — credit.
  • Geography — credit.
  • Economics — credit.

Final Thoughts

UTME candidates seeking Anthropology should have five SSCE credit passes covering English Language, Government or History, Religious Studies, Geography and Economics. Candidates targeting the University of Ibadan should also check the university's additional O'Level condition involving English Language and three other Arts subjects.
