Direct Entry candidate preparing qualifications for Arabic Language and Literature admission

Direct Entry Into Arabic Language and Literature

Direct Entry is designed for candidates who already possess an appropriate higher qualification and want to gain university admission through the DE route rather than beginning with the regular UTME route.

For Arabic Language and Literature, candidates should pay attention to the higher qualification they intend to present and the subjects covered by that qualification.

The General Direct Entry Requirement

The general Direct Entry requirement is two A' Level passes in relevant subjects.

The relevance of the subjects is important because the qualification should provide an appropriate academic background for the degree.

Arabic as a Relevant Subject

Arabic is particularly important for candidates whose qualification is being used to enter a programme centred on Arabic Language and Literature. Candidates should therefore examine the subjects attached to their A' Level qualification carefully.

Other Relevant Arts or Social Science Subjects

In addition to Arabic, the applicable Direct Entry condition allows another relevant Arts or Social Science subject. This provides the required academic background alongside the Arabic component.

Direct Entry Is Separate From UTME

A candidate applying through Direct Entry should not treat the UTME subject combination as the DE qualification. The two routes are different.

UTME candidates focus on the JAMB subjects and O'Level credits, while DE candidates focus on the higher qualification being presented in addition to the required O'Level conditions.

What a DE Candidate Should Check

  • The type of higher qualification being presented.
  • The number of relevant A' Level passes.
  • The subjects covered by the qualification.
  • Whether Arabic is included where required.
  • The relevance of the additional Arts or Social Science subject.
  • The applicable O'Level requirements.
  • The specific conditions of the university being chosen.

University-Specific Conditions Matter

Although the general Direct Entry requirement provides a useful guide, candidates should still examine the conditions attached to their preferred institution. A university may provide an additional requirement or a specific interpretation of the accepted qualification.

Direct Entry Preparation

Candidates should gather their academic documents early and check that the qualification they intend to use matches the requirements. It is better to identify a subject or qualification issue before submitting an application.

A Clear Summary

The key Direct Entry requirement is two A' Level passes in relevant subjects. For University of Ibadan, the specific condition requires the two passes to include Arabic and any other Arts or Social Science subject.

Candidates should also examine the O'Level requirement and any institution-specific condition that applies to their application.

For a broader view of the admission conditions, prospective DE candidates should also check the additional information provided below before making their application.
