Understanding Direct Entry for Christian Religious Knowledge/Studies

Direct Entry gives candidates who already possess certain post-secondary qualifications an alternative route into university. For Christian Religious Knowledge/Studies, the acceptable qualification depends on the institution and the particular condition stated for the course.

General Direct Entry Route

The general requirement includes two relevant A' Level passes or an appropriate NCE qualification involving Christian Religious Studies or Religious Studies.

A' Level Qualifications

Candidates presenting A' Level results should check that the subjects are relevant to Christian Religious Knowledge/Studies. Some universities specify CRS or Religious Studies as one of the required subjects.

NCE Qualifications

NCE holders can also be considered where their qualification is relevant and meets the required grade. The brochure records institution-specific acceptance of NCE qualifications in CRS or Religious Studies.

Other Qualifications Recognised by Some Institutions

Depending on the school, candidates may encounter additional routes involving IJMB, Cambridge qualifications or relevant diplomas. These are not universal conditions, so the institution selected must be checked carefully.

Examples of Special Conditions

Federal University of Kashere accepts two A' Level credit passes in CRS and another Arts subject. Kaduna State University accepts NCE in CRS/Theology with at least Merit, two A' Level passes in CRS/Theology, IJMB in CRS/Theology with 7 points or above, and ND in CRS/Theology with at least Lower Credit, in addition to the O'Level requirements.

Nasarawa State University accepts NCE Merit in Christian Religious Studies, while other institutions may have their own conditions concerning A' Level, NCE or related qualifications.

O'Level Requirements Still Apply

Holding a higher qualification does not automatically remove the O'Level conditions. Candidates should check whether the institution requires particular credits, subjects or sitting limits alongside the Direct Entry qualification.

What a DE Candidate Should Confirm

  • The exact qualification being presented.
  • The subjects covered by the qualification.
  • The grade or points obtained.
  • The required O'Level credits.
  • Whether the institution has a special DE condition.
  • Whether the qualification is accepted for the chosen programme.

Use the Admission Document Carefully

The document provided below is useful for checking the school-by-school conditions because Direct Entry requirements are not identical across all institutions listed for the course.

Making the Right DE Choice

Before registering, match your qualification against the exact condition of the university you want. This is especially important where the brochure provides a special requirement for that institution.
