English Language UTME Subject Combination in Art/Humanities
Contents
The general JAMB brochure entry for English Language gives the UTME subjects as Literature in English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.
General UTME Subjects
- Literature in English
- One other Arts subject
- Another Arts or Social Science subject
However, the brochure also records institution-specific variations. For example, ABU requires Use of English, one Arts subject and two other Arts or Social Science subjects, while RSU requires English Language, Literature in English, Government/History and Christian Religious Knowledge/Islamic Religious Studies.
Other institutions also have specific subject combinations. AUE and SAU require Literature in English, Government/History or any other Arts subject. BOWEN does not accept a Social Science subject. CHRISTOPHER requires one Social Science and one Arts subject.
More Institution-Specific Variations
- EBSU: any two of History, CRS, Government and French as the other subjects.
- FED-DUTSE: specific combinations involving Literature in English, Nigerian Language, History, Religious Studies, Economics and Government are accepted.
- LAGOS: English Language, Literature-in-English and any two of CRS/IRS, French, History, Government and any Nigerian Language.
- NILE: any three Arts or Social Science subjects.
- SLUK: any two Arts subjects and one other Arts or Social Science subject.
- MAIDUGURI: Literature in English and any other two subjects.
- IAUED: English Language, Literature, Christian Religious Studies and History.
- FED-WUKARI: Literature in English, one Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.
These variations are important because a candidate should not assume that one combination automatically applies to every institution offering English Language.
Choosing Your JAMB Subjects Carefully
The safest approach is to identify the exact institution and then match its admission entry with the subjects selected for UTME. Closely related English programmes should not be used as substitutes for the English Language entry.
