Direct Entry Route for French
The general Direct Entry requirement in the JAMB brochure is two A' Level passes including French and one other Arts subject.
This provides the general academic route into the programme, but French has several institution-specific Direct Entry variations. Candidates should therefore avoid assuming that the general requirement applies identically to every university.
Qualifications Mentioned in the Brochure
The institution-specific provisions include qualifications such as NCE, IJMB, JUPEB, recognised French diplomas and A' Level qualifications where the particular institution accepts them.
Examples of Institutional Differences
Ambrose Alli University accepts NCE merit in French and one other Arts subject and also accepts NCE Double Major in French. Abia State University has provisions involving two A' Level passes in Arts and another route involving two A' Level passes including French at IJMB/NCE.
Bayero University accepts NCE in French and a French Baccalaureate A' Level, while Benue State University accepts two NCE passes including French and one other Arts subject.
Other Notable Conditions
Delta State University requires a merit pass in French and one other Arts subject at NCE level, accepts A' Level passes including French and one other Arts subject, and recognises a certified Diploma in French from an institution such as the Nigerian French Language Village in place of A' Level French.
The University of Ibadan accepts NCE merit including French and one other subject from Arts and Social Science subjects and allows candidates without O'Level French. The University of Ilorin accepts at least two A' Level passes including French and one other Arts or Social Science subject.
