Igbo Direct Entry Requirements for Art/Humanities Candidates
Contents
Direct Entry candidates applying for Igbo have a separate admission route from UTME candidates. The JAMB admission information gives specific qualifications for candidates seeking Direct Entry admission into the programme.
General Direct Entry Qualifications for Igbo
The brochure lists the following Direct Entry options:
- Two A' Level passes in Igbo and one Arts or Social Sciences subject
- NCE in Igbo and one Arts subject
These are the general Direct Entry qualifications shown alongside the Igbo course entry.
Institution-Specific Direct Entry Conditions
The special-consideration section adds conditions for particular institutions. For the University of Ibadan, the brochure accepts NCE merit/credit in Igbo and another Arts or Social Sciences subject. It also states that two A' Level passes may be accepted where one is Yoruba and the other is another Arts or Social Science subject.
For IMSU, the special consideration states that A' Level passes/NCE merit are accepted. The brochure also gives a separate Direct Entry condition for UNN, involving A' Level passes or NCE merit in at least one Language and one other subject, together with the UTME requirements.
For LAGOS, the brochure lists very good passes in three JUPEB/A' Level subjects, with Igbo/Yoruba and any two of History, CRS/IRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature-in-English. It also mentions NCE (Merit) in two subjects including a Nigerian Language and a LASU Diploma in Communication Arts.
Keep Direct Entry Separate from UTME
The A' Level and NCE qualifications above are Direct Entry conditions. They should not be confused with the UTME combination of Igbo and two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.
Important Point for Applicants
Direct Entry requirements can differ by institution, as reflected in the JAMB admission information. Candidates should therefore identify the exact university and apply the condition attached to that institution rather than relying on a single general rule.
