O'Level Requirements for Yoruba
The general O'Level requirement shown for Yoruba is five SSCE credit passes to include Yoruba and English Language.
However, candidates should not stop at the general requirement because the admission information gives additional conditions for particular institutions.
Institution-Specific O'Level Requirements
- University of Ibadan requires five O'Level credit passes at one sitting or six O'Level credit passes at two sittings, including English Language and two Arts subjects, one of which must be Yoruba.
- University of Ilorin requires five O'Level credit passes to include Yoruba, English Language, Mathematics and two other Arts/Social Science subjects. It also states that candidates who did not offer Yoruba (Language/Literature) but meet other UTME entry requirements may be considered.
- Obafemi Awolowo University requires five O'Level credit passes to include English Language and any Arts subject.
- Adekunle Ajasin University requires five O'Level credit passes to include English Language, Yoruba, Mathematics and any two subjects.
- University of Lagos requires five O'Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three Arts, Science or Social Sciences. Social Studies and Civic Education are also accepted.
Important Distinction
The general requirement and the institution-specific conditions should not be merged into one universal rule. A candidate applying to one of the universities with a special O'Level condition must satisfy the condition attached to that institution.
For instance, Yoruba and English Language form part of the general requirement, but the University of Lagos adds Mathematics and a selection of three other subjects, while the University of Ilorin specifically includes Mathematics, Yoruba and English Language.
Checking Your SSCE Result
Before selecting a university, compare your SSCE subjects and grades with the exact requirements of that institution. This is particularly important where the school has an additional or different condition.
