African and Asian Studies Direct Entry Requirements

Direct Entry provides another route into university for candidates who already possess a relevant higher qualification. Candidates considering African and Asian Studies through DE should check the qualification they intend to present and make sure it is relevant to the course and admission conditions.

Direct Entry Qualifications

The Direct Entry information for African and Asian Studies includes qualifications such as:

  • Two A' Level passes in relevant Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • ND or HND in relevant areas such as Arts, Cultural Studies or International Relations, where accepted.
  • NCE with the required level in a relevant subject area.

A' Level Route

Candidates using A' Level qualifications should have two relevant passes in the required Arts or Social Science areas. The subjects presented should relate appropriately to the course and the admission conditions being used.

ND or HND Route

Candidates with an ND or HND in a relevant field may also consider the Direct Entry route where the qualification is accepted. Relevant areas can include Arts, Cultural Studies or International Relations.

The grade and relevance of the qualification are important, so candidates should check the applicable condition before applying.

NCE Route

NCE holders may also be eligible for Direct Entry where their qualification is relevant and satisfies the required grade and subject conditions.

Candidates should not assume that every NCE qualification automatically qualifies for the course. The subject area and required grade should be checked carefully.

Direct Entry Is Different From UTME

Direct Entry candidates should not apply the ordinary UTME subject combination as though it were their DE qualification. The two admission routes have different requirements.

A DE candidate should focus on the higher qualification being presented, while also ensuring that the required O'Level conditions are satisfied.

What Candidates Should Check

  • The type of higher qualification being presented.
  • The subjects or discipline covered by the qualification.
  • The grade obtained.
  • The relevant O'Level requirements.
  • The admission conditions applicable to the institution.

Final Advice for Direct Entry Candidates

Anyone considering Direct Entry into African and Asian Studies should examine the qualification they intend to use before beginning the application. A relevant A' Level, ND, HND or NCE qualification may provide a route where it satisfies the applicable requirements.
