O'Level Requirements for Creative Arts

Meeting the UTME subject combination is only one part of preparing for Creative Arts. Candidates must also have the required O'Level credits before they can be considered for admission.

The Basic Requirement

The brochure states that candidates need five SSC credit passes, including:

  • English Language
  • Fine Arts

The requirement specifically identifies English Language and Fine Arts among the five credits.

English Language

English Language is one of the required credits. Candidates should therefore confirm that the required credit is present on their SSCE or equivalent result.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts is equally important because it is specifically named in the course requirement. Candidates interested in Creative Arts should check this subject carefully before assuming that any other Arts subject can replace it.

What About NTC Candidates?

The brochure also gives a detailed set of relevant subjects that may apply to holders of the National Technical Certificate. These include areas such as Graphic Design, Graphic Printing, Ceramics, Decorative Painting, General Woodwork, Building or Engineering Drawing, Surface Design and Printing, Spinning and Weaving, and other related technical or artistic subjects.

Check the Number of Credits

Candidates should not only look for English Language and Fine Arts. They must also ensure that the total number of required SSC credits is satisfied.

Do Not Use Another Course's O'Level Requirement

Creative Arts is different from Fine Arts/Fine and Applied Arts, Fine Arts and Design, Theatre Arts and Performing Arts. Even though these programmes overlap creatively, their admission conditions should be checked separately.

Result Checklist

  • Five SSC credit passes
  • English Language credit
  • Fine Arts credit
  • Other required credits
  • Acceptable examination result

Check the School Too

The programme is listed for DOU, LAGOS, PHC, UNN and TASUED. Candidates should also check whether their preferred institution has any additional condition attached to the course.

For the brochure wording and the full admission information, candidates can refer to the document below and compare the requirement carefully with their O'Level result.
