Islamic Studies O'Level Requirements for Art/Humanities Admission

The general O'Level requirement for Islamic Studies is five SSCE credit passes. The course entry specifically requires English Language and Islamic Studies or Arabic, together with three other relevant subjects.

General O'Level Structure

• Islamic Studies or Arabic
• Three other relevant subjects

This gives the required five credits. Candidates should note the use of “or” in the course entry: Islamic Studies and Arabic are presented as alternatives in this general requirement, not as two compulsory credits for every candidate.

Institution-Specific Conditions

• University of Ibadan: five O'Level credits at one sitting or six credits at two sittings, including English Language, Islamic Studies and three or four other Arts or Social Science subjects.
• KASU: English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Religious Knowledge and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.
• KWASU: English Language, Islamic Studies and any other two Arts subjects.
• OOU: two other subjects from Arts.
• TSUJ: accepts Arabic in lieu of Islamic Studies.
• UMYUK: five credits at SSC, HIS or SIS in English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects, at not more than two sittings.
• LAGOS: English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any other two subjects.
• FED-KASHERE: English, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any two of Hausa, Arabic, History, Literature in English, Economics, Government, Civic Education or Commerce.
• SOSU: English Language, Arabic or Islamic Studies and any other three relevant subjects at not more than two sittings.
• FED-DUTSINMA: English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any two Arts or Social Sciences subjects.

The differences are institution-specific, so candidates should not replace one university's O'Level requirement with another's.

Important O'Level Reminder

Some institutions introduce Mathematics, sitting limits or alternative subjects that are not part of the basic course-wide wording. These conditions should be checked against the university the candidate intends to choose.
