Philosophy O'Level requirements and SSCE subjects for Art/Humanities admission

The general O'Level entry for Philosophy requires five SSCE credit passes to include English Language and any three subjects. The brochure also lists a number of institution-specific O'Level conditions that candidates must observe.

General O'Level Requirement

For the general Philosophy entry, candidates are expected to have five SSCE credit passes including English Language and any three subjects.

Institution-Specific O'Level Conditions

  • AAUA: five O'Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, one Arts subject and two other relevant subjects.
  • BENIN: five O'Level credit passes or five Merit passes in TC II at not more than two sittings, including English Language and any two other Arts or Social Sciences subjects; at least an O'Level pass in Mathematics is required.
  • BOWEN: five O'Level credit passes including English Language and any two other Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences subjects; an O'Level pass in Mathematics or Physics is required.
  • BSU: five O'Level credit passes in Social Sciences including English Language.
  • EBSU: for Philosophy, five O'Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, at a maximum of two sittings.
  • FED-LAFIA: O'Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other relevant subjects.
  • IBADAN and LAGOS: five O'Level credit passes including English Language and one Arts subject.
  • LAGOS: five O'Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, one Arts subject and any two Arts, Social Sciences or Science subjects; Civic Education is also accepted.
  • NDU: five O'Level credit passes in English Language and four other subjects, consisting of two Arts and two Social Sciences.
  • OAU: five O'Level credit passes including English Language, one Arts subject and an O'Level pass in Mathematics.
  • OOU, IBADAN, AAU, OAU, PAAU and IMSU: require at least an O'Level pass in Mathematics.
  • PHC: five credits in English Language and any four subjects from Literature in English, History/Government, CRK/IRK, Economics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics, Igbo/Hausa/Yoruba, Fine Art, Geography and Commerce.
  • UHIELE: five O'Level credit passes including English Language and any two other Arts or Social Science subjects, with at least an O'Level pass in Mathematics. Candidates must be sponsored by a Catholic Diocese.
  • UYO: requires an O'Level credit pass in one Science subject and at least an O'Level pass in Mathematics.
  • FED-WUKARI: five credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language, Government/History and any three subjects in Arts or Social/Management Sciences.
  • FED-LAFIA: five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and three other related subjects from Arts, Social Sciences and Science in not more than two sittings.
  • RSU: five WASC/GCE/SSCE/NECO credits in English Language, Mathematics and any three other Social Science subjects.
  • DELSU: five O'Level credit passes, which may include Mathematics, English Language and four other subjects in Arts, Social Sciences and Science; five Merit passes in TC II including English Language and four other subjects in Arts, Social Sciences and Science are also stated.

One More Thing to Check

Do not assume that the general five-credit requirement automatically overrides an institution-specific condition. Where the brochure provides a special O'Level requirement, that institution's condition should be followed.
